Channels & media / INDEPENDENT FIELD GUIDE

Sports Tags Feed

A sports content collection can connect teams, competitions, fixtures, and reporting without treating those entities as the same kind of tag.

Separate the fixture from the commentary.

The core idea

An article may discuss a team across a season or one specific fixture. Keep those relationships separate. Match previews, results, analysis, and opinion should also be distinguishable so readers know whether they are opening a forecast, an account of a completed event, or broader commentary.

A workable starting pattern

Create explicit event records when the collection depends on fixtures. Preserve source and publication context, review time-sensitive descriptions, and avoid letting a speculative headline become a factual result. Use topic tags for sustained themes rather than duplicating every entity into the same flat vocabulary.

AN EXAMPLE TO THINK THROUGH

A preview and a recap can reference the same fixture while having different publication states. A reader should not mistake an old preview for a current result merely because both appear under one team label.
